Indiana Lawmakers Propose Property Tax Cuts

Indiana lawmakers are proposing a bill to cut property taxes for homeowners, aiming to save millions of dollars and cost communities millions. The bill would expand the property tax deduction, which currently allows a maximum deduction of $45,000. Under Senate Bill 1, the minimum deduction would be $48,000, with the deduction for homes valued at $125,000 or less being $48,000 + 60% of the homes' assessed value. For homes valued at more than $125,000, the deduction would be 60% of the homes' assessed value. But because of these lowered taxes, the police and schools budget would be significantly lowered.
